Abstract
An analytical solution is proposed for a mathematical model of a continuous culture of microorganisms in which the probability of loss of plasmids upon cell division depends on the dilution rate. It is shown that at each instant of time there is an optimal dilution rate from a control viewpoint. Two such time-optimal profiles are derived and compared to determine the effect of wild type cells present initially in the broth.
