title: Production of β-glucosidase (cellobiase) by Curvularia sp. creator: Banerjee, U C subject: QR Microbiology description: A Curvularia sp. isolated from soil was found to produce extracellular β-glucosidase activity when grown in yeast extract, peptone, carboxymethylcellulose (YPC) medium. An initial medium pH of 6·5 and cultivation temperature of 30°C were found to be most suitable for high enzyme productivity. The pH and temperature optima for the enzyme were 4·0 and 70°C, respectively. Under these conditions, the enzyme exhibited a Km (0-nitrophenyl-β-d-glucoside) value of 0.20 mmol/l. Several divalent metal ions inhibited enzyme activity at high concentration. EDTA. also inhibited β-glucosidase activity. publisher: Wiley date: 1990 type: Article type: PeerReviewed format: application/pdf identifier: http://crdd.osdd.net/open/657/1/Banerjee%201989%28S%29.pdf relation: http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1472-765X.1990.tb01332.x identifier: Banerjee, U C (1990) Production of β-glucosidase (cellobiase) by Curvularia sp.
