This tool is used for the prediction of functional strand of microRNAs (guide strand) from putative miRNA:miRNA* duplex intermetiate. Here we have utilized the sequence and secondary structure features implemented into support vector machine (SVM) for model development.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) produced by sequential processing of a long hairpin transcript by RNase III enzymes, Drosha and Dicer, and form transitory duplex of miRNA:miRNA*. One strand of the duplex which incorporate into RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and silences the gene expression is called functional strand, miRNA. While other strand of duplex degraded called non-functional strand, miRNA*. It is very important to develop a method to predict the functional strand of miRNA to understand the RNA interference pathway.
In this study a highly accurate method, with accuracy of 80%, have been developed to predict functional miRNA strand. This will be useful in annotation of miRNA and can be implemented in RNA silencing technology to improve the biological and clinical research.
